A celebration 100 years in the making! Join Bill and Sandi Nicholson as they usher Solana, Santa Barbara’s most iconic estate, into her second century.  As the original Frederick Peabody estate, former host of the prominent American think thank, The Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions, and now, after emerging from an unbelievable restoration, as the defining West Coast residence, Solana is as rich in history as she is in beauty. Nestled between the Pacific Coast Ocean and the Southern California foothills lies the Santa Barbara Polo Club.As you drive along the scenic coast,look out for the American and California flags flying high over the club entrance. Arrive in your best Sunday Polo attire complete with the requisite large hat, or don your favorite California chic outfit for an afternoon of adrenaline pumping action.

Can’t get enough of the American Riviera?  Consider attending the annual Gods & Goddesses gala at Lotusland, Montecito’s beloved botanical garden!  This memorable affair has lively entertainment, delicious hors d’oeuvres, a full bar, wonderful wine and a sumptuous seated dinner on the main lawn.

2:30PM: THE OPERA EVENT OF THE SUMMER - SMETANA’S THE BARTERED BRIDE

The Bartered Bride is a comedic tale, steeped in tradition, full of poignant moments and expansive Czech melodies. The lovely young Marshenka doesn’t want an arranged marriage, so the marriage broker is tricked into a contract that allows her to be betrothed to her true love. Lively dancing and a colorful circus create an atmosphere all ages can enjoy.

11:00aM: Puja and Piety: Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist Art from the Indian Subcontinent

This exhibition celebrates the complexity of South Asian representation and iconography by examining the relationship between aesthetic expression and the devotional practice, or puja, in the three native religions of the Indian subcontinent. From monumental painted temple hangings to meditation diagrams and portable pictures for pilgrims, from stone sculptures to processional bronzes and wooden chariots, from ancient terracottas to various devotional objects for domestic shrines, this exhibition aims to examine and provide contextualized insights for both classical and popular works of art.
