The Grounds

SCROLL DOWN

The Grounds

Solana’s vast 11-acres unveil themselves with a poetic sense of wit and wisdom. As individual elements in an ever-blossoming set of short stories, each region of her landscape stands alone: a unique destination and representation of a botanical ideal.  As a complete composition, Solana’s grounds narrate a great odyssey.  This journey, hundreds of years and thousands of miles in the making, tells an anthology of individual moments and interconnected adventures. High tea in formal gardens. An afternoon of contemplation in the Bali Bali. A passionate affair in the rose garden.  A swing gently swaying in the wind.  Each chapter, each district, contributes to the wondrous natural world that surrounds, supports and exalts Solana.

Lily Pond

Lily Pond

An incredible 150-ft crescent-shaped lily pond rests quietly below the sunrise dining terrace and overlooks the entire Montecito Valley. At the waters edge, a Winged Victory silently presides over the foothills and graciously conducts a symphony of roses, which unfold at her back.  Taking in this dramatic scene, it is impossible not to be overcome by the same century-old sense of wonder that has befallen all who have experienced this remarkable composition. Adjacent to the lily pond, a pool pavilion has two baths each with Portuguese tiles and a pair of George Washington Smith sconces.
